Last night, knowing that today was the big day, I could not sleep at all. I finally fell asleep at 2:45 a.m. and woke up at 4, 5:15, and then my alarm went off at 5:45. We arrived at the hospital at 6:30, had paperwork to fill out to check in, got the IV, etc. all that fun stuff and the anesthesiologist came in and gave my my epideral so they could remove my circlauge. My doctor came in at 9 and as he was doing some last minute feeling around of the baby he said "He is breach." I became very nervous at this point. He couldn't take my stitch out now because he didn't want me to go into labor. He said that he was going to try and turn him but had to wait for another doctor to help him and he was at another hospital delivering. He also had clinic patients waiting back at the office so he said he'd come back at lunch and try then. They came back at 12:30 and tried for awhile to turn him. Turning a baby full term only has a 33% success rate and they weren't able to turn Bridger. His heart rate kept dropping so we stopped trying. He then told me that standard medical procedure would require me to have a C-section. Where I've already had one this would mean that all my babies from here out would have to be delivered that way. He then told me that he was very confident in delivering him breach. He said that the worry with doing so is that they would get the body out and maybe the head wouldn't fit through the cervix. However, because my cervix is incompitent, he wasn't worried about that at all and said I'd be just fine but was leaving the decision up to me. We talked about it and asked the doctor lots of questions and decided that we would deliver breach. They then took out my circlauge and I immediately within 5 seconds dilated to a 5. (This happened at about 2:00) All we had to do then was wait. Because we didn't have the pressure of a head first baby, it took awhile to dilate. My epideral kept wearing off through the whole process and I was in a lot of pain. I couldn't stop my body from shaking really bad and the contractions were painful as well. This made me even more exhausted. Finally at 8:00 we were wheeled into the operating room just incase something happened they could perform a C-section right there. They gave me another dose in my epideral but it wasn't kicking in. I started pushing and this was very difficult. I was shaking out of control and because of the anesthesia and how exhausted I was, I felt exactly like you feel right before you pass out the entire time, along with really bad pain. I pushed and pushed and nothing was happening. He was folded in half so his bottom and legs were coming out first (much bigger than a head, and the pain proved it.) Finally after about 15 mins of constant pushing he came out at 8:32. He was adorable and we fell in love at first sight. He has been the most precious baby, absolutely peaceful and relaxed. We have yet to hear him cry. He just lays there and looks at you with the sweetest look on his face. I LOVE his head of hair and think he's perfect. Recovering from labor was very hard for me. This was a very difficult delivery and I couldn't control the violent shaking for about an hour along with throwing up a couple of times. Because of this shaking and feeling like I was passing out, I didn't trust myself to hold Bridger because I feared I might drop him. I had to have an episiotomy also and was just all around a mess. Finally a couple hours later I started to feel better and am now just very sore. We are so excited that he's finally here and love him so much. He was 8 lbs 10 oz and 21 1/2 inches long. A big boy and sweet as ever. It's been the longest pregnancy ever and an incredibly long day but he was worth every minute.
