This is the hotel we stayed in. It was adorable. Everything was old and antique and made you feel like you were visiting a place 100 years ago. Nauvoo was nothing like what I expected. I imagined a city full of commercial buildings and stop lights etc. just like any other city but in certain areas you could find a few original buildings from the pioneers. I thought it would be that way kinda like it is in Salt Lake where you have the temple and other church buildings amongst modern day stuff. It was absolutely the opposite. I didn't know that the church owned almost the entire city and left it exactly how it once was. Not one stop light, just old roads with old brick houses everywhere. There were a few businesses but they were the hotel, and old pioneer stores, or restaurants like "grandpa johns cafe." it was great! I felt like I was in a completely different world which added huge to the spirit that was there. It really gave an amazing feel like we were walking down the same exact street as the pioneers once walked.
